Tropical Forest Community Ecology provides a comprehensive synthesis of contemporary research on the ecology of tropical forest communities. The volume examines the exceptional diversity of tropical forests and explores the ecological processes that determine species distribution, abundance, coexistence, regeneration, and community structure. Drawing on empirical studies, long-term forest dynamics plots, experiments, and ecological theory, the contributing authors evaluate major explanations for the maintenance of tropical biodiversity, including niche-based processes, neutral theory, recruitment limitation, competition, herbivory, and trophic interactions. The book also addresses animal–plant interactions, secondary succession, forest dynamics, invasive species, and conservation. A major emphasis is placed on recent advances in large-scale monitoring and quantitative approaches that have transformed understanding of tropical forest communities. Overall, the volume integrates established theories with emerging evidence, identifies unresolved questions, and highlights directions for future research into the structure, dynamics, diversity, and conservation of tropical forests.
