In this book the authors hope to support educational professionals in the early years and primary education to understand historical and current educational practice and their theoretical underpinnings and support them in developing their personal and professional practice. The rationale for this is that early years and primary are often seen as very separate stages of development, although children are expected to progress from one key stage to another in a seamless way and the historical and philosophical ideas underpinning practice at the different stages are often the same or similar.
